Today was our 10th wedding anniversary, I can’t believe how quickly that went. It feels like we’ve lived such a lifetime since our wedding day, but also…it was brief.

We’re celebrating in Mexico. This month is a whirlwind, with big, exciting things happening I’m not quite ready to announce yet. But I’ve also been planning and preparing for this trip, so I really haven’t posted much. I’m working on that, but for now. This is where I’m at.

After the three of us left Southern England, we spent Mon-Fri at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest. It was a nice break in the trip. We were happy and busy with grandparents at the beginning and end of our two weeks, and this break in the middle was a chance to spend time away just the three of us before setting off for more extended family adventures.

Friday night was the 11th anniversary of my first date with Adam (which was also on a Friday). The anniversary must have fallen on a Friday before, but this is the first year I remember it.

So, H spent the night at my mom’s, and Adam and I wandered around Manhattan in the freezing cold of January just like we did back in 2004 when we met. We are too old for stuff like this.

We are so jet lagged around here. The three of us just flew home from a week in France this past Saturday afternoon, and Adam and I have been completely delirious since. H’s recovered pretty well, although she’s been waking us up at wacky hours all through the night. She didn’t sleep at all on the flight home. Maybe that’s why we’re so delirious. This feels like the worst jet lag we’ve ever had!

January brought its “A” game this year. It’s normally my least favorite month of the year; I’m over the snow and cold by month’s end, someone in the house almost always gets sick, and it just feels like it goes on forever. The bright spot exception is my very best good friend Laura Ann’s birthday, and I forgot it this year. Go home, January! You’re drunk!

januarysnowIt’s been snowing. Like, all the time.

My computer’s network adapter was fried earlier this week during one of the endless thunderstorms we’ve had here at The Shore, so I am only now posting about my wedding anniversary last weekend.

We were married on May 19, 2007, and this is the first year since my first anniversary in 2008 that I have not blogged on the exact date. This is because Adam and I decided to be brave and drop H at my mom’s for the night so we could head down to Revel in Atlantic City. It was the first time we’ve ever been separated overnight, and I was nervous the entire week leading up to it. But, she was thrilled to see her Nana, and we were able to Skype with her before her bedtime. She was in a great mood, having a great adventure. That made the entire weekend so much better, and I was able to relax after that.

Today is our 5th wedding anniversary. We didn’t do anything fancy, but it was a perfect day as far as I’m concerned. We went to a cookout this afternoon, so I baked a bunch of small strawberry pies this morning with H. And then my mom babysat while we headed to Nicholas for a really great anniversary dinner. H loves my mom, but we came home to a fussy baby who dissolved into hysterical tears when she was in my arms before suddenly passing out on me. She just wanted her mom and dad (and some gripe water), and I never felt more like a grownup than I did in that moment. Life is so different today, but it just gets better and better. And I just keep counting my blessings.

On Saturday Adam and I went to Philly for a little anniversary celebrating. We had dinner at home on Thursday night, so Saturday was our first chance at a day out. We went to IKEA and got 2 of these loungers, which I love. The boxes were huge, and Adam had to ride home in the seat behind mine. We had cheesesteaks. And I went to Spool to meet Eleanor Grosch. Adam met her, too.

Today is a good day. May 19, 2007. These were our centerpieces.

I’ve had a really good year, and I have a really great life. Today I’m just counting my lucky stars.

I was in bed until about 5pm today, then I dragged myself to the shower to get ready for the anniversary surprise that Adam has been planning for weeks now. He’s been incredibly tight lipped about it, and I haven’t had any idea what the surprise was.
