Mom and GraceAt 9pm tonight, my mother will be retired. This is the end of an era: 39 years as a librarian, and she’s finally retiring.

She retired once before. After being a school librarian for 30 years, she “retired” and kept working as the director of the public library all the way up until today: almost 10 years later. The kicker is that she was already the public library director when she left my hometown’s high school librarian position. She had been doing BOTH jobs FULL time while I went through my senior year of high school and most of college. She would work a full day at the high school, and then she would walk across the parking lot to the Nutley Public Library, just a few yards away. She would there until 9pm, then most Saturdays, until after 4 years of these she had her 30 years at school and retired.

marblechampI think this will be next on the list. I found this quilt designed by Lizzy House over the summer and got really excited. I love her fabric, and I’m still looking for something to fill the rest of the space on the dining room wall. I’m not going to make mine this full size, and I may scale down the size of the circles, but I like this as a homemade project to help keep the room funky without being too homespun.

Apparently some of the construction workers found a litter of abandoned kittens, in good health, under the floorboards somewhere inside. The kittens are being looked after by a downtown animal rescue organization, and they’re trying to get employees of Adam’s firm to adopt them all.

Today is Adam’s birthday, and we had a joint party to celebrate that and my mom’s retirement this coming Wednesday. My mom didn’t know we were celebrating her, and we (Adam, me, and my brother) got her a gift and card.

I’m really liking this new caprese with prosciuttoSaturday Night Dinner plan.

Tonight I just made a super simple caprese salad with the most amazing local tomatoes. Whole Foods had great New Jersey tomatoes from a local farm, I wish I’d made a note of which one.
