Archive: June 2014

Yesterday morning was a complete frenzy in the modern quilting world while huge numbers of us tried to register for next year’s QuiltCon. It’s the only convention for modern quilters, and the first one held in 2013 was a huge success.

It must be said that I haven’t been able to prioritize quilt guild meetings since becoming a mom. It actually wasn’t so bad when H was an infant; she kind of had to come with me everywhere so she could eat, but she was an easy baby.

It’s really been the past year or year-and-a-half that made it tough. When H was old enough to start having opinions or refusing to sit still. Plus, little people are exhausting. It takes a lot of effort to strategize life outside out of motherhood, and something had to give or I would never see my friends and family. Or get any work done.

I haven’t posted a recipe since March 30th (!!!!). What have I been doing for two-and-a-half months?! It’s not like I haven’t been in the kitchen. But I haven’t been trying as many new things, and what I’ve been trying I haven’t been posting. I’ve made a few recipes without taking any photos at all! I do not even recognize myself. A new meal without accompanying photography is like Christmas without Santa, right? RIGHT??

I’m coming out of my cooking writeup funk and am catching up on a bit of a backlog. But I may save some of them for fall; suddenly recipes I made in the dead of winter don’t seem so appealing in mid-June. This one, however, is a crowd pleaser anytime.

Here’s the deal with quilting lately: I’ve been doing a lot of it, but I haven’t been able to share. I realized just now that I never posted the finished Rainbow Strip Quilt, which I finished back in April (I think). So now that’s going on the To Do list.

But I’ve also been working on 3 other quilts I haven’t shared; two are top secret projects to be revealed later this year/early next year (in print!!!!), and the third is a wedding quilt for one of my very best friends, Miss Maggie.

It has been busy around here. Today was H’s last day of school, and I’ve been writing and sewing quite a bit. Plus, all of the makeover prep for this site!

So, it is taking a while to finish posting these trip photos from Normandy. I still have quite a few, but I’m going to bust them all out in one final post.

I love, love, loved Rouen. I especially loved the timber-framed buildings.
