It’s coming along so much! I finished the top before we left for Las Vegas, and I made the backing when we got home. It’s all sandwiched, and I started on the quilting this weekend. That will be a time task, I’m doing different motifs on every square. And actually, every part of each square.

You know the rule that you have a year to buy a newlywed couple a wedding gift? Well…I have failed that timeline spectacularly. Maggie and Dave got married in October 2013, and I’m still working on their quilt. I’ve had to put it aside for months now because of deadlines, going back to teaching, and toddler duties. But, it is my top crafty priority at the moment.

Here’s the deal with quilting lately: I’ve been doing a lot of it, but I haven’t been able to share. I realized just now that I never posted the finished Rainbow Strip Quilt, which I finished back in April (I think). So now that’s going on the To Do list.

But I’ve also been working on 3 other quilts I haven’t shared; two are top secret projects to be revealed later this year/early next year (in print!!!!), and the third is a wedding quilt for one of my very best friends, Miss Maggie.

Maggie and I have sort of an understood tradition that we do markets together. The Brooklyn Flea every summer, and the Chelsea Market or Union Square holiday market every Christmas. I’ve really wanted to go to Smorgasburg since I first heard about it, so yesterday I loaded H into the car and we had out first adventure on Maggie’s home turf.

A few weekends ago I met up with Maggie in Union Square for our annual holiday outing.

And we stumbled onto SantaCon, which was hilarious.

I had a wonderful, busy day in Manhattan on Sunday with 2 great friends and a lot of shopping.

I met up with Kathy to deliver her NYC pillow and enjoy Cafeteria’s macaroni and cheese sampler (my favorite!) and their truffle fries (now I’m addicted). I was so excited about this lunch (I also had tomato soup) that I completely failed to take any actual pictures of Kathy and me. I see carbs, and…things happen to my attention span. Sorry, Kathy! You know I love you. Read more on Kathy and Maggie Day…

Maggie is a homespun MO girl living in Brooklyn, so when I saw AHeirloom’s Plyboo state cutting boards, I knew I wanted to get her one for Christmas. With the heart placed on her hometown. I’m in love with these boards, they’re made from rapidly renewable bamboo, AND the company is based in Brooklyn. It had Maggie written all over it!

I spent Saturday driving up and down the BQE with Maggie. We hit up the Brooklyn Flea, DuMont for brunch, and Moma’s PS 1 in Long Island City. But this was by far the coolest thing I saw: 5 Pointz Gallery on Davis St. And it was completely by accident, I turned down the street to park and we found it.

I need to bring Adam there so he can take pictures, it was amazing. We didn’t go inside, though.

jackiechristmasWent back into Manhattan today to have my annual Christmas celebration with Maggie. We’ve developed a brunch tradition lately, so this morning we met at Vynl in Chelsea for omelets, girl talk, and gifts. I gave Maggie peach balsamic vinegar and Meyer lemon olive oil from Carter & Cavero, my favorite local shop. Maggie gave me a set of rubber bracelets (made from recycled flip flops) from the Made With Love project, which feeds homeless children in Africa. She had me at “Made with love.”

bar 89All I’ve done this week is eat, meet friends, and run around New York. Not that I’m complaining.

Remember back in January when my husband’s step-grandmother passed away? Today was a memorial unveiling her headstone, so Adam’s dad, stepmom, and brother have been in town this weekend. It’s been hectic, so I haven’t really been able to post much. Lots of back and forth to the city and the cemetary out on Long Island.
