Today is my actual birthday, but last Sunday we went to see Elephant & Piggie: We Are in a Play at the New Victory Theater. That was my birthday celebration. My mom pointed out that they were doing a sensory friendly performance, I saw it was the weekend before my birthday, and that’s what I wanted. No presents.

I turned 37 on the 10th, and I had a great birthday this year. I actually love my birthdays, but this one was especially good. My birthdays stressed me out until I turned 30, and then I realized they weren’t actually scary. Every year older felt like a year of life earned and-well lived. And then I started embracing them with shenanigans and hijinks every year.

This girl had such a great season. Last summer H wasn’t even walking on her own yet. This was her first real kid summer, and I’m sad to see it go. I mean, it’s still 84 degrees outside, but you know how summer feels “over” once Labor Day comes and goes. From Lancaster with my mom to the county fair to fruit picking to visiting grandparents, we did a ton of stuff in those two-and-a-half months. I didn’t realize how much until I looked back this morning. Here are some more summer photos.

I haven’t posted here much this summer because it’s been so busy. But everyone’s busy, everyone always says how busy they are. What does that even mean to me?

We’ve had several different kinds of busy around here. Prepping for new job busy, summer adventures with a toddler busy, organizing the house busy, sewing and writing busy, making jam busy, feeding and speech therapy busy. Sometimes all of these busies feel so consuming that I forget I do occasionally spend time with other adults and don’t just sit in front of my computer or run a two-year-old all over the county.

It’s been fun around here for adults lately. Sometimes with H in tow, and sometimes even without her! Read more on Grownups of Summer…

My birthday got off to a rocky start this year, but in the end it became a month of celebrations. After being sick on the day of I was pretty down about the whole prospect of birthdays and endless winter.

But it definitely had its shining moments.

I went to NYCC last weekend, one day on my own and one day with H. She had her picture taken with Batman, who was taking his NYCC duties very seriously. H had no idea what was going on.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there!

I really enjoyed my first Mother’s Day last year, but this year was even better. Maybe it’s just that with all the other insanity going on in my life these days I appreciate the complete awesome that is my family much, much more. Team Reeve is pretty great, and I love our life together more and more each day. Man, that was such a greeting card sentiment, but it’s actually true. I couldn’t stop smiling all day, I was just loving the celebration of this whole motherhood business so much.

I got my Spongebob Squarepants Mother’s Day card and gift certificates for Barnes & Noble and the Fat Quarter Shop first thing this morning. Best gifts, simple and no fuss! The Spanish F1 Grand Prix was this morning, so clearly that is becoming a bit of a Mother’s Day tradition. We got up to watch it live at 7:30am, and H and I hung out on the couch while Adam made waffles. Perfection.

So I turned 34 on February 10th. Quite a different year from last year. And there was quite a lot of celebrating this year. I had a great one!

My birthday weekend started with a big snow storm on Saturday the 9th. So we had a great time playing in the snow with H and trying out her new baby sled.

H and I braved the cold and went into Manhattan for the day today. I kind of hemmed and hawed about it this morning because a) H woke up at 1am in hysterical tears, no idea why and b) I had planned on meeting up with Kathy but didn’t have her Christmas and birthday presents ready yet. Somehow these things, combined with the cold, just felt too insurmountable. But, I dragged myself out of bed at 8:30 this morning and got us out of the house.

I’ve been enjoying a really lovely Thanksgiving weekend with family, but I’ve been dying to post the photos from H’s first trip to her mother’s favorite holiday kickoff event, the inflation of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons.
