In January, I wrote a list of protest and activism books for kids for GeekMom. I never blogged about the list here, but after last Friday’s events, when the health care bill was killed after people on both sides of the aisle spoke out, it felt like a good time to remind our kids that speaking out–and speaking up–works.

He got neutered a few days ago. I did actually get out my Silhouette Cameo and decal his cone. Not the first day he came home, that was just too much sadness for the world. But as he’s recovered, and just bangs into walls and runs in circles because he can’t scratch himself, I couldn’t help myself.

It’s always time for a haircut when I go into “bun phase” or “Detective Odafin Tutuola phase.” I didn’t make it to Fin Phase, but I was sporting a lot of buns. I hadn’t had a cut since last July. I got it cut almost two weeks ago, but I am behind on life after Miss H’s 5th birthday.

I have this quilt I have been working on through three winters now. I started it in January 2015, then put it away shortly after for other things. Picked it back up again last January, finished the top, and then put away before I did anything else. This January I pulled it out again. It’s becoming an annual tradition!

We’ve been trying a thing around here, or at least I’ve been trying a thing, to better organize our time. Because I’m not a homeschooler. But…I work. I work at home, I have a child in half day preschool (probably next year as well), I have a child getting 4 sessions of private speech and OT each week, I do not have childcare, I do not want to just park my 5-year-old in front of the TV all day.
