It’s been a busy few weeks, with all of my summer writing deadlines and article edits coming up within a short window. I haven’t had much time to write here the past week. I’ve also been trying to get some quilts made and tutorials written.

This girl had such a great season. Last summer H wasn’t even walking on her own yet. This was her first real kid summer, and I’m sad to see it go. I mean, it’s still 84 degrees outside, but you know how summer feels “over” once Labor Day comes and goes. From Lancaster with my mom to the county fair to fruit picking to visiting grandparents, we did a ton of stuff in those two-and-a-half months. I didn’t realize how much until I looked back this morning. Here are some more summer photos.

I got the idea in the latest issue of Stitch magazine to make a beach blanket using laminated cotton for the back. This would keep water from soaking through the ground into the blanket you’re sitting on. Genius.
We took H to the beach for the first time today, and we tried out the beach blanket I just finished making yesterday. I’ll post more about that later this week, I’m kind of in love with it.
After 3 planes and something like 17 hours door to door, Adam and I arrived in Kauai last Sunday. We spent a great week there, Kauai is just so chill. Chill enough to drive me to actually describe it as “chill.” I must still have Island Brain.
Anyway, we stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort, which is a “Luxury 3 Star Resort Near the Airport” according to its Google search result. Perfectly nice, nothing groundbreaking, comfortable spa and pool, and it was about $130 a night. So as far as we’re concerned, best resort evah! It took us 2 days to get the internet sorted out, which did nearly give me a nervous breakdown, but it was all good in the end.
Here are some of the basics, I’m still sorting through my fancy camera photos. These are all just point and shoots.
It’s been a rough week with the weather we’ve been having around here. I’ve had bad headaches pretty much every day, and this morning I started getting a sore throat. So we decided to skip the Valley Shepherd cheese festival and just spend a quiet day at Pier Village.
That’s what I’ve had. It’s really been a great one.
On Friday I went to the Rutgers Farmers Market with my friend Meredith. I didn’t buy any fruits or veg (after complaining about how my local farmers market doesn’t have enough), but I did get this glorious haul:
Our friends Richard and Amanda flew in from the UK yesterday to stay with us for a week. So the first stop was a diner for lunch, and the next stop was Sandy Hook for some late afternoon people watching. Adam got stuck holding up the umbrella, which almost always falls over, and we just sat in the sun for a couple of hours.
I haven’t blogged since Tuesday, and it’s now Saturday. Lots of things have been happening, but I’ve been exhausted and trying to build my energy back up. So, no blogging. I’m feeling so much better than last week, and this week has been a good one. But last weekend was pretty good, too, and I’m really behind on my posts.
