fabricforcalendarMy first project for 2010 is, fittingly, a calendar. One of the books I got for Christmas was I Love Patchwork by Rashida Coleman-Hale. All the projects are gorgeous, but I decided to start with this button calendar for the kitchen. I’ve had all these pink/maroon Lizzy House “Dish” fabrics for ages, and I’ve never figured out what to do with them. So I’m using some of those, along with a bunch of others, to make this calendar. Here’s hoping I stay focused and get it done by the end of January.

I’ve finished gluing the 6 minute circles together. They’re not sewn in yet, I wanted to glue all of them first and then sew the whole thing in one go. I’m in love with how it looks.

circle quilt 1I’m finally starting the circle quilt. It took me 4 tries to find the right background fabric. The first I thought of using was the 2nd from the left in the bottom row of this picture. But it was too busy on our dining room walls. Then I thought about using solid chocolate brown, then a retro big floral print. Today I drove down to Mouse Creek Quilts and found this Purl “Cake Rock Beach” fabric with brown on brown dots.

marblechampI think this will be next on the list. I found this quilt designed by Lizzy House over the summer and got really excited. I love her fabric, and I’m still looking for something to fill the rest of the space on the dining room wall. I’m not going to make mine this full size, and I may scale down the size of the circles, but I like this as a homemade project to help keep the room funky without being too homespun.
