It’s been a little more than six months since I last posted here, which is a record. This blog is ten years old, and I’ve never gone that long without posting! But it was kind of a welcome break–I needed to concentrate on packing up, moving from New Jersey to Washington, getting settled, finding a house, getting H settled at a new school. It’s been a ride, and we’re just starting to settle down.

We have some news—we are moving to Seattle this summer! Well, to the Seattle suburbs. An opportunity came for us to go, and we’re taking it. We went out in early March to look at schools and neighborhoods and fell in love with the area.

I’m still getting my new year together, but I’m tired of looking at that cod recipe as my top post. Not one of my best photos, even it was delicious food. So here are some photos of Hamilton, the Greatest Dog, while I continue getting 2017 organized.

We got a puppy! His name is Hamilton, and he’s a 10-month-old maltipoo. He is the sweetest, funniest, cutest, most relaxed dog we’ve ever met. Read more on Meet Hamilton!…

It’s still a work in progress, so I don’t have any final reveals yet. We’re getting new carpet installed sometime (hopefully) in the next week, and I’m still working on our new bed quilt. I’ve been on hiatus from that one, but I’ve gotten back to it this week.

We’ve called this room the library since we bought the house almost 9 years ago. I think we’ll never shake the name; originally this was the room with all of the books, lots of them. But over time it’s evolved into more of a family room, with H’s toys and playthings taking over. Books have been donated and moved to make room for trains, toys, art supplies. I love that room, and I love its evolution.

One of the GeekMoms, Natania, got a bunch of us hooked on Ipsy. My first bag came last month, and I just got the email that my February bag is on its way. Happy dance! I loved the goodies in the first bag (that Briogeo deep conditioner was amahzing).

My first New Year’s Resolution this year was to get organized. I needed to try and find some routine, some system, that would help me juggle the everyday tasks that take up so much of my time in my working life and home life. I feel like I’m horribly inefficient when it comes to the day-to-day stuff, devoting far too little or too much time to them and throwing the rest of my life out of balance a little as a result. I’m also a terrible delegator and kind of a control freak; I can never point Adam at the tasks that would be the most helpful, and some of my systems are so obtuse that it’s impossible for him to figure them out. I’m getting better about that, though. I’m learning to care less about how things are done and just be excited that someone else is doing them.

So I finally finished our new monogrammed family Christmas stockings. I started thinking about these a while back, knowing that H would need one and wanting to take the opportunity to improve on our old ones with a new coordinated family set. The old ones have been great, but I’m a better sewer 4 years later. And, I can applique things.

I kind of scheduled a bunch of food posts to publish before Hurricane Sandy hit the New Jersey coastline. I figured by Halloween we’d all be back up and running, and I just thought I’d get a bit of a head start on a Sunday recipe post.
