I turned 39 last Saturday! It’s been a week since then, and more than two weeks since I’ve blogged, and it’s been busy and eventful and so much has been going on. So I desperately need to catch up here.

On Halloween weekend we had a great time at a sponsored event for the upcoming Penguins of Madagascar movie (which opens on the 26th). Adam and I took H (in costume) and met up with other bloggers to hang out at the Bronx Zoo, see the movie, and spend the night at the Residence Inn. Check out my post about it on GeekMom today.

I’ve been busy over at GeekMom, and I have a few posts I’m really proud of. All of my posts are here, but in the past few weeks I did a roundup of the Best Audio Books for Family Road Trips, Disney’s 2013 Holiday Gift Preview, and HIT Entertainment’s 2013 Holiday Gift Preview. I also wrote I Took My 15-Month-Old to the Movies, analyzing whether or not H is ready for the big screen.

I’ve always liked Ben Affleck, but I really liked the speech he gave for Argo’s Best Picture win at the Oscars on Sunday. And yes, I know this is tilted. But it’s the best version of the entire speech that I could find.

This is too ridiculous for words, but it looks like so much fun. Must read the book first.

Oh.

My.

God.

I’m still trying to decide what to make of this trailer…I see many changes from the book. And I think by now I’ve clearly established how completely in love with that story I am. As a rule I try not to obsess about changes in a film adaptation of a book as long as the film stays true to the spirit of the original and it adds to the experience. I look at them as separate things. So I’m holding my breath to see what Martin Scorcese has done with it, since every movie he’s ever made is brilliant. But if he messes up the spirit of this particular book, I’m having every Hugo Cabret-lover I’ve ever taught write him angry letters.

Two weeks from today, I will be heading to Florida with my brother for LeakyCon. I cannot wait, I’m so excited to celebrate the final Harry Potter film with a city full of geeky lovers of the series. The Con is having 2 screenings of the final movie, on the 14th instead of the 15th, and I am over the moon about that, too. Not midnight releases, actual day before screenings. PLUS, we’re taking over the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios on the night of the 13th. Amazing. I can’t believe this era is ending.
