This blog turned 11 back on April 16th! I somehow always miss my blogiversary (does anyone still use that word?), and it’s also been a couple of months since I last posted. The week before this blog’s anniversary, we went back east to NJ to visit my mom for H’s spring break, and I got to spend a couple of nights on my own in NYC. The trip was fantastic for so many reasons. Adam gave me a ticket to finally see Hamilton for Christmas, and I just had the most amazing time. And it was great for H to revisit her hometown. She’d been missing NJ a lot, and lately starting to compare what she missed about NJ to what she had in WA. But she came back home to WA with a new appreciation for this new home we’re making in a way I don’t think she would have without a visit back to NJ. After 10 months away, she has changed so much, and I think she was able to enjoy the place where she was born but then get back to her new life out here.

I turned 39 last Saturday! It’s been a week since then, and more than two weeks since I’ve blogged, and it’s been busy and eventful and so much has been going on. So I desperately need to catch up here.

We’ve been a little busy.

Last Sunday H and I went to Brooklyn to film a segment of Sesame Street! It won’t air for about a year; season 46 is on now, and she filmed for season 47. Kathy passed on a message from a work acquaintance that a casting director for the show was looking for kids H’s age to film some segments. They wanted kids of all ethnicities and all abilities, so I followed the quick application process, and a couple of weeks later we got an email from the casting lady to see if we were free that weekend.

I was at Universal a few years ago, when the Harry Potter section was new, but I’d just found out that I was pregnant and couldn’t ride anything. My brother-in-law Thomas and I took a break from Disney and went over to Universal last week. I Harry Potter’d! I did so much Harry Pottering!

We’re going to Disney World in September, and even though Halloween will be weeks away we’ll be going to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. This is H’s first trip to Disney, and it’ll be our first time at the Halloween festivities. So I asked her what she wanted her costume to be, and we looked at some Disney characters and shows that she loves. She immediately settled on PJ Masks, and she was adamant that she would be Gecko, I would be Owelette, and Adam would be Catboy.

I have deadlines, and so many trip photos, but I really want to document what we did. This blog is my archive, so bear with me. I have two (or maybe three?) posts left to get out.

I went to NYCC last weekend, one day on my own and one day with H. She had her picture taken with Batman, who was taking his NYCC duties very seriously. H had no idea what was going on.

I’ve been busy over at GeekMom, and I have a few posts I’m really proud of. All of my posts are here, but in the past few weeks I did a roundup of the Best Audio Books for Family Road Trips, Disney’s 2013 Holiday Gift Preview, and HIT Entertainment’s 2013 Holiday Gift Preview. I also wrote I Took My 15-Month-Old to the Movies, analyzing whether or not H is ready for the big screen.

I’ve always liked Ben Affleck, but I really liked the speech he gave for Argo’s Best Picture win at the Oscars on Sunday. And yes, I know this is tilted. But it’s the best version of the entire speech that I could find.
