I finally picked an invitation design for H’s first birthday last weekend, and I’m really happy with it. After narrowing down the choices, I went with this design from Eclectic Note Cards. It was amazingly affordable ($8!), Adam liked it, and it came with an entire suite of very cute options for thank you notes, labels, and signs. I also found this Cricut cartridge at a great price the other day, so I can add to the decor with some more die cut goodies.
I can’t believe it, but in less than 2 months The Sprout will be one! And, actually, I have already been planning and brainstorming her first birthday party for weeks, but it’s actually time to start DOING something about it.

By now I have thoroughly documented my love for paper planners and my complete uselessness in updating gadgets. Last year when I made my own grade book, lesson plan book, and planner I loved them so much I have done it again. And since today was the 1st day of orientation at my new job, I thought it would be a good time to post the new goodies.
The cards are all done! I finished making them while I was sick, and I wrote them out over Thanksgiving weekend. Except for a couple of address checks and international stamps they are ready to be mailed. So glad to get this done so early!
I’d decided months ago that I wanted to make our holiday cards this year, so with Thanksgiving coming up in just a few days I started this project today.
I’ve been fighting against some very unpleasant migraines on and off since Thursday, and this has been a low-key weekend trying to fend off headaches. So I’ve been doing projects like this to start getting ready for the holidays. I’m excited with the idea, I’ve got snowflake and tree die cutters that I’m using on my extensive collection of papers and card stock. I bought that nifty Martha Stewart small snowflake punch, and I just need to get some glitter pens or stamps that write on dark paper to really finish them with some more embellishments. Maybe sequins?
I don’t know why I put so much time into it this year, but I felt like kicking it up a notch. Plus I decided over the summer that my apple tree looked lame without leaves. And I couldn’t find an apple die to cut out the shapes, so since I was definitely not doing this tree by hand like last year I went with leaves instead.
Last year I made our niece Cleo a personal diary for Christmas. I loved making that book, and I’ve been collecting cool papers with the hopes of making another one.
At the beginning of the month I lamented about the lack of cute plan books for school. This is the 2nd year I have searched and failed to find a fun looking grade book and lesson plan book. So I actually did make my own, using some of my favorite papers, and I’m really happy with them. They have the number of pages I need, no more no less (I hate wasting paper). And the covers are personalized and fun. These will make me happy everytime I use them, so I think this project was a big win. Now I’m thinking about making an agenda to go with them.
The Interweb is a marvelous thing. I read a lot of blogs for ideas and inspiration, and not long ago I stumbled upon this homemade recipe book on The Small Object’s blog Steno Pad. I thought it was great, but I wasn’t thinking of giving any recipes this year. Then somewhere else in my wanderings-I didn’t bookmark the page so now for the life of me I cannot find it again-I saw a post about a homemade doodle book with comic strip panels for a child to fill in. Again, great idea but I couldn’t think of any little artists on my list who’d be interested (I did a few art gifts last year).
