I was at Universal a few years ago, when the Harry Potter section was new, but I’d just found out that I was pregnant and couldn’t ride anything. My brother-in-law Thomas and I took a break from Disney and went over to Universal last week. I Harry Potter’d! I did so much Harry Pottering!

The last leg of our UK trip last month was up to stay with my in-laws in Derbyshire and spend some time running around the country and running around Sheffield (which is South Yorkshire).

We were in the UK for two weeks, and we divided the trip into thirds: a third in Southern England with one set of family, a third just the three of us at a Center Parcs resort, and a third in Northern England with our other set of family. And we packed in the activities as soon as we landed. Legoland, London. This is everything else we did during our first third. Fancy dinner! Fabric shopping! A model village!

I turned 37 on the 10th, and I had a great birthday this year. I actually love my birthdays, but this one was especially good. My birthdays stressed me out until I turned 30, and then I realized they weren’t actually scary. Every year older felt like a year of life earned and-well lived. And then I started embracing them with shenanigans and hijinks every year.
