Another quilt commission is all finished, and it’s been delivered. Just in time for this baby’s shower! I love this lavender and silver, it’s a lovely combination.

I’m finishing up a commissioned baby quilt this week, to be delivered on Thursday. After I made the chevron quilt for H’s speech therapist, using Crazy Mom Quilts’ tutorial, another staffer at her speech clinic commissioned one for her friend’s baby shower. In lovely lavender and gray fabrics that she picked out from Fat Quarter Shop.

So this is the custom project I was working on for a friend. Audrey is a sorority sister I met…wow, about 12 or 13 years ago? And we’ve been part of several alumnae chapters together. She did all of these 5ks a few years ago, but the race bibs have just been hanging around. So, she asked me to put them together with some pink fabric (pink is one of our sorority colors).

So my first commissioned quilt was delivered to its new home the weekend before Christmas, and I really, really love this. I don’t think I’ve ever done a quilt entirely out of prints, no solids anywhere. I loved the process of designing for someone, I loved how I brought the sketch to life, and I love that Ryann was so happy with the finished product. It was so much fun, and it gave me a lot of confidence in my design skills and my sewing. So. Very. Cool!
My first commissioned quilt!
A friend of mine from high school, Ryann, reached out to me back in October to see if I could design and make a quilt for her daughter, who is due to arrive the week before Christmas. She has a year old son, Jack, and wanted something that was hot pink and navy (to match Jack’s nursery, since the siblings will be bunking together for a while). I made some sketches, and after the storm had settled we met for coffee to look them over. She picked this one.
