My first commissioned quilt!

A friend of mine from high school, Ryann, reached out to me back in October to see if I could design and make a quilt for her daughter, who is due to arrive the week before Christmas. She has a year old son, Jack, and wanted something that was hot pink and navy (to match Jack’s nursery, since the siblings will be bunking together for a while). I made some sketches, and after the storm had settled we met for coffee to look them over. She picked this one.

So I started putting fabrics together, taking advantage of Black Friday sales, etc. Finally, today, all the fabrics I need are here. So I’ve just finished cutting out all the strips I’ll need to make the various diamonds.

Lots of good stuff, including just a few of Kate Spain’s Cuzco prints and some Dear Stella Kalianthi blues.

But this one is my favorite.

I had originally hoped to have the quilt top pieced by this past weekend, but it took a full week for my order from the Fat Quarter Shop to arrive. They were inundated after their huge Black Friday sale, but they were very sweet about overnighting the fabrics to me yesterday when I told them it was my first commission and I was bugging out. So, I’ll be charging forward this week trying to get the front of the quilt done. Wish me luck!
