Our girl is 7! Her birthday was last Friday the 15th, and we had two full days of celebrating. Everyone here is still recovering, and I’m getting over a bug that left me with a fever upwards of 103 last night. Friday morning we were at school for her class’s birthday circle, then we left school for a day at Ikea (she asked for a new desk for her birthday) and Emerald City ComicCon. Saturday morning was her Wild Kratts-themed birthday party, and Saturday night we went to Monster Jam.

This was, by a mile, the best birthday party H has ever had. Four of her friends and their moms met us in Brooklyn at Brooklyn Owl, a unicorn horn store, for a day out in NYC. The moms went for coffee, and Adam and I stayed to take photos of the girls picking out their own special unicorn horns, making unicorn crafts, eating unicorn cupcakes, and solving clues for the store’s magic mirror, which spoke to them and transformed them from little girls into magical unicorns. We could not have packed more unicorns in if we tried, it was fabulous.

Today’s the day! HFR is 5 years old today. I’m going to get the typical parent cliche out of the way here first by announcing I can’t believe she’s five, it feels like just yesterday when she was born, where does the time go, etc. These are all true statements that run through my head on a regular basis, and at every birthday she’s ever had.

Her birthday isn’t actually for a couple of weeks, but her party is this weekend. And we’re doing a superhero theme, so I used the Silhouette Cameo my in-laws gave me for Christmas to make really cute favors.

Halloween prep has taken up a huge, wonderful chunk of this month. It’s been a month of deadlines for some great projects, but it’s also been making H’s costume and getting stuff together for this party. It was the most Pinteresty party that ever Pinterested.

You guys, we just had the best weekend! HFR turned two on Saturday, and we had her birthday party at Coco Beans Play Cafe, a local indoor play space that we just love. We did a “Tea for Two” theme since it was her second birthday, so it was all finger foods and tea-inspired goodies.

I could not be more over the moon with how her party went, and with how much fun she had.

Adam took all of the party photos, so I don’t have those to post yet. But in the meantime, here is some of the prep that went into the party (we did all the food prep ourselves). I’ll post some of these recipes this week.

I made more of these sensational whoopie pies.

Ok, guys. Before I dive into photos and posts about our spring break road trip, I need to share about this birthday cake. I know, it’s another cake. But it’s H’s first ever birthday cake, and despite the storm of insanity that plopped down on our house the week of her birthday I was still determined to make it as awesome as I could.

Today was HFR’s luau birthday party. It was kind of a trip.

She was not into the leis.

But she was dressed in her finest resort casual…

…despite the fact that it snowed today!

I finally picked an invitation design for H’s first birthday last weekend, and I’m really happy with it. After narrowing down the choices, I went with this design from Eclectic Note Cards. It was amazingly affordable ($8!), Adam liked it, and it came with an entire suite of very cute options for thank you notes, labels, and signs. I also found this Cricut cartridge at a great price the other day, so I can add to the decor with some more die cut goodies.
