Other posts on this trip: Getting to Our Little House, Dieppe and Thereabouts, Omaha Beach

It has been busy around here. Today was Hannah’s last day of school, and I’ve been writing and sewing quite a bit. Plus, all of the makeover prep for this site!

So, it is taking a while to finish posting these trip photos from Normandy. I still have quite a few, but I’m going to bust them all out in one final post.

I love, love, loved Rouen. I especially loved the timber-framed buildings.

I’m finally posting my photos from our European trip last month. We weren’t in the UK for very long; we stayed overnight Saturday at my father- and stepmother-in-law’s house and had a birthday dinner for Adam’s younger brother. Then the next day we had lunch with Adam’s older brother and his family (including Hannah’s two amazing cousins, Cleo and Livi). Then we set out for Dover to take the ferry to France with my mother- and stepfather-in-law.

We stayed overnight Sunday in Dover so we could climb up to the White Cliffs.

January brought its “A” game this year. It’s normally my least favorite month of the year; I’m over the snow and cold by month’s end, someone in the house almost always gets sick, and it just feels like it goes on forever. The bright spot exception is my very best good friend Laura Ann’s birthday, and I forgot it this year. Go home, January! You’re drunk!

januarysnowIt’s been snowing. Like, all the time.

I haven’t posted much this month, everyone’s so busy in December. But here, in a nutshell, was our holiday season.

I took way too many Christmas card photos. Like, about 1,000 photos.

We took Hannah to Atlantic Farms on Saturday, just like last year, to get a pumpkin and visit the petting zoo. We stopped at Hinck’s next door for lunch first; it wasn’t as crowded as last year, and still insanely delicious. Confession: we may have gone at least once over the summer to get a turkey dinner fix. Who can just save it for the holidays?

Last Saturday we went apple picking at Battleview Orchards. We stopped for hot donuts and cider first, then headed to the fields. This was Hannah’s first real outing as a walker, and it was pretty fun.

Sometimes when Hannah is having a tough day, either because her teeth are bothering her, she’s decided to boycott naps, or it’s just really hard to be little, she can wear us out. Last week was that kind of a week. I finished with my job on Tuesday, so I’ve been a little drained and scattered emotionally anyway. Her canines have officially started coming in just a week or two after the pain subsided from her first molars (all her teeth come in 4′s). I know this because the doctor confirmed the news at her 15 month well visit last Wednesday. She had a fabulous checkup that day, he is impressed with her progress in physical therapy and feeding therapy (have I mentioned those? Another post), she got her chicken pox and MMR shots…and then threw up all over the shopping cart when we went to the grocery store right afterwards. I was fully briefed on potential rashes and pox breakouts a week after the shots, but I was not prepared for the potent mix of foreign stuff in her little body and the hysteria that the doctor’s office now brings out in her. She was happy at the store, and totally fine 5 seconds after it happened, but I had to struggle with a cart, baby, and grocery store floor just covered in barf. I would have had a nervous breakdown right then and there were it not for a truly decent female store employee who brought us a new cart, wet paper towels, and a trash bag for all the dirty clothes. She was my superhero of the day, and I told customer service so. And this was just on our first day back together full time.

“Hannah” outdid herself this year (Adam took this photo).

I never posted about Father’s Day, which was very low key. Adam caught up on hours of video games, did some DIY stuff, and requested Chicken Paprikash for dinner. But I’m pretty thrilled with his gift, this monogrammed steak branding iron from The Prairie Forge in Wyoming. I played phone tag for a few days to place my order (there is no online ordering at this working ranch and iron forge), and Cate could not have been sweeter. They had this brand and the accompanying branded board to me within two weeks.

I loved today. Such a great summer day, and a great unwind after some stressful work times. Tuesday is my last day of work, so I’ve been closing up the library, saying my goodbyes, packing up and hauling home all of my personal work stuff. That has occupied a lot of my thoughts the past week, so today was a really nice respite. At this point I am mentally done and gone, I just need the days to physically end.
