The tiny boss lady picked all the paper this year. She is very decisive, and her aesthetics align right with her mom’s.

And she has adorable taste, this was my favorite theme as well.

Yesterday I took her up to the Paramus Container Store as part of a whirlwind day visiting folks. We saw an old high school friend of mine, Ryann, who’s asked me to make a baby quilt for the little girl she’s having Christmas week. We had lunch with my mom and coffee with Kathy, and in between that H was introduced to her mother’s annual holiday tradition.

Okay, I know not everyone gets as excited about wrapping paper as I do. But, it’s the week before Thanksgiving. And that means I have picked this year’s color scheme, made my annual pilgrimage to The Container Store for paper and supplies, and the holidays are fully underway. They don’t become real to me until I’ve picked out my wrapping paper. In 2008 it was red and green, 2009 was silver (with white, red, and green).

I used the gift certificate from The Container Store that my mom gave me for Christmas (plus some extra) to stock up on the non-Christmas wrapping paper to go into my rotation. I love these prints and patterns, and I love the quality of their wrapping paper. So much fun!

2009 wrapping paperI can’t believe Thanksgiving is still 2 weeks away and I’ve got my wrapping paper already. To be fair, I went a little overboard last year and had tons left. So this year, in the spirit of reusing while still being fabulous, I only bought 3 new rolls at The Container Store, bringing my total to 9. Yes, six rolls of paper left from last year. Actually, one of those rolls (the “ho^3” roll) is from 2 years ago, and I still haven’t used it up. I loved it and bought 3 or 4 originally. I may still get more, but for now this is what I’ve got.

Remember when I wrote about how gift wrapping is like a bloodsport to me?

I wasn’t exaggerating.

For weeks now I’ve been trying to decide what the Christmas theme would be this year. I’ve done silver and gold, blue, green and blue, etc. Last year it was red and white, and I really loved that theme. I still have some of that paper and would use it again-this almost never happens to me. Once a new Christmas season comes along, I have no desire to revisit last year’s theme. Not so this year. But could I bare to do 2 years in a row with the same color scheme?

Gift wrapping is like a bloodsport to me. Every December I pick out a new, matching palette of wrapping paper for my Christmas gifts. Seeing the coordinated gifts under the tree gives me immense satisfaction, and I make no apologies for my OCD tendencies in the world of aesthetics. My beloved 2nd floor laundry room also doubles as Gift Wrap Central, where I keep an endless supply of ribbons, tags, and tape in the cabinet drawers and use the folding surface to wrap. Throughout the year, whenever I see a great pattern on wrapping paper I have to buy it. Every possible occasion and color palette is covered in my collection. Target and The Container Store are my go-to sources for the coolest in gift wrap (Adam has an irrational fear of The Container Store, but that’s for another post).
