This is a great experiment from our Learning Resources Deluxe Lab Set. It was quick, it wasn’t too messy, and H thought it was completely fascinating. You’ve got all these ingredients at home already, so this is a great one for a snow day (like tomorrow), a rainy day, or just when you need a quick experiment to do with the kids.

We gave H this Hape Puppy Pouch kit for Christmas, and we sewed it up this month. I haven’t seen it available anymore, I’m not sure if it’s just sold out or discontinued. But if you can’t find the puppy, here’s the fox kit.

One of H’s birthday presents was this adorable mini sewing machine from John Lewis in the UK. Her grandparents brought it over for her when they came for her party, she as excited. I’d been thinking of getting her a machine when she turned 5, and I’d seen that one last year on a trip over. Now, she has it. And we’ve been learning to use it.

Okay, I’m making a comeback with my pie project after 3 missed months. But no apron this month. Instead, I canned for the first time. Seriously, I CANNED. After Adam and I went apple picking I had bags of apples to do something with, and I decided I would can them for apple pie. Actually, originally I thought I would get apple pie, applesauce, and apple butter out of them. I wildly overestimated how far 5 lbs. of apples would get me. But I did get a yummy pie out of a weekend spent slaving over hot apples and jars. Needs some tweaking for the future, but a pretty delicious start.
