If you pick up the October issue of Inside Jersey, I have a feature on hippotherapy inside. Hippotherapy is the use of horses as a therapeutic tool for speech, PT, and OT. I pitched the idea several months back because H goes to one of the clinics I interviewed. She originally went for PT, now she goes for OT. And it’s been hugely beneficial for her, and motivating. She loves the horses she rides, and we’ve seen some great progress.

We signed up for a membership at Monmouth Museum, our local county museum over at Brookdale Community College. My brother’s kids love this museum, and it’s been on my list of things to check out for ages. Their recommendation pushed me to check it out on a recent weekday when we needed something fun, local, and out of the heat. The museum is doing a deal in July that gives you 13 months on a membership instead of 12, and they had some great hands-on exhibits and playscapes for the preschool set.

The same weekend with my in-laws that we headed to Diggerland also saw an impromptu beach trip. We took H to Jenkinson’s Aquarium, which is one of her happy places. It was breezy but not as cold as it usually is in November, so we headed out onto the sand afterwards for some play and attempts to get Christmas card photos.

We are having a pretty rough week around here. More on that another day, but it seemed like a good time to post some happy photos from the weekend before Thanksgiving, when Adam’s mom and stepfather came over from the UK for a long weekend. We went down to South Jersey to check out Diggerland after seeing IG photos from one of H’s classmates.

This place is so odd. We went somewhere similar in Vegas over spring break, and Wild West City is a little cleaner and better taken care of. But, it’s one of those seemed-like-a-good-idea-on-paper kind of places. An old west town! For kids! With pony rides and a replica of Dodge City! And a little train! My cowgirl-, horse-, train-loving daughter would be in heaven.

What a fabulous (and noisy) program. We all went to the inaugural show yesterday in Red Bank. The NJ Symphony Orchestra did a matinee performance for kids before their grownup show last night. This is the first event at Count Basie, but I think I’ve seen this elsewhere around the state. Maybe NJPAC?
