Last year I made this quilt for a friend of mine going through quite a tragedy. This year she is pregnant again, expecting a baby boy in September! She has a Masters in anthrolopology and has spent time in Borneo and Costa Rica studying primates and various other species. So a jungle-themed baby quilt seemed entirely necessary. These are the fabrics I originally picked to work with:

The 3 on the top left are all prints I found at Kaimuki Dry Goods in Honolulu, either licensed through David Textiles or imported. The cat fabric is “XOXOXO, The Cat” by Wendy Slotboom for In the Beginning Fabrics. That was in my stash, no idea where it came from. I won’t be using the cats, but fussy cutting some of the florals. Then bottom row fabrics are from these collections: “Red Letter Day” by Lizzy House for Andover Fabrics; “Woodland Friends” by Ellen Crimi-Trent for Clothworks; “Freebird” by Momo for Moda; “Remix” by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman.

In the end I decided to only use 6 of the 8 fabrics:

I’m happy with these prints, I think it will look great set with some dark chocolate brown sashing. I based the pattern on the “Annabel” quilt from the Spring 2011 Best Quilts for Kids issue of Quilters Newsletter.
