I had a great time in Manhattan on Sunday with Tracey, Meredith, and Laura Ann. We’ve been planning this outing since the spring, so I was thrilled when the day finally arrived.

First we met up for brunch at EJ’s Luncheonette on 73rd and 3rd.

They had a red velvet pancake special, which I obviously had to try. It was possibly the most ginormous stack of pancakes I’ve ever seen, topped off with cream cheese frosting. I didn’t make it very far into this stack, but it was SO worth it. They were pretty delicious.

But the main reason for our outing was to see the Royal Shakespeare Company perform As You Like It at the Park Avenue Armory. And it was incredible. The RSC is in the midst of a 6 week residency at the Armory, and an exact replica of The Globe was built inside the Armory for the performances (exact except for the red exterior). Every time I go to an event at the Armory I think it can’t get any cooler, and then it does. It’s fast becoming my favorite cultural space in the city.

And the show was fantastic, I really loved it. As You Like It is one of the Shakespeare plays I’m least familiar with, so it was wonderful to see it unfold. Rosalind was particularly wonderful. Just such a lovely afternoon with 3 great friends.
