A year ago my mother-in-law Cora let me have some of her collection of Nigerian fabrics from her time teaching there in the early 70s. I haven’t found a project for all of them yet, but since her birthday was at the beginning of the month I thought I could at least start with something handmade that she could use everyday. So I used Oh, Fransson!’s super simple laptop sleeve tutorial to make her a case for her beloved new MacBook Pro.

I fussy cut two elephants from a big piece of fabric that I’d taken from the pile.

So that guy is on the front and back of the sleeve.

These little guys were part of the border of that same piece of fabric, I used them to make the flap. I lined the whole thing in black flannel.

And here’s the finished sleeve! I love how it came out, and I was able to give it to her over Thanksgiving weekend (she and Adam’s stepdad are in town for their first ever Thanksgiving). It fits nice and snug, and I think it looks great. I might make some more of these for other gifts this Christmas.
