Some things in life need to be played close to the chest. Such is the case with this barbeque sauce, which I concocted myself. I’ve gotten it into my head that I need to have some secret recipes to pass on to H, and this is one of them. I knew we’d be having some cookouts this summer, and I decided to try my hand at a homemade sauce. We’re having folks over on Sunday, so it will be the first chance to give this sauce a field test.

It. Is. Zesty. I can’t give away all the secrets, but I can say that habaneros AND jalapenos were involved.

Next year I might tweak the recipe to get more strawberry flavor out of this (I had a slightly heavy hand with the molasses), but I actually think it’s pretty delicious. Sweet and spicy. We’ll have to see how much the strawberry flavor actually comes through. I can taste it, but I also tasted the whole batch in process. I need a saucy virgin to try it out. Wait, that didn’t come out right.

Depending on how it goes this Sunday, I think I’ll try my hand at a peach bbq sauce next. I definitely think I can get the peach flavor to come through.
