Today, after a rescheduling due to weather, I am finally going for my first haircut since March 2007. I don’t know why it takes me so long to get my haircut. I actually like the process these days, but because I have such ridiculously curly hair I’ve had some awful cuts in my life. This makes me a tad bit hesitant to jump in that chair. I’ve had Afros, crewcuts, mushroom clouds, hair helmets like James Brown, bad chemical relaxers, and more. But basically since I graduated from college my haircuts have been pretty good. I just can’t get over the mental hurdle of getting them more often. When I went last, my stylist told me she wanted to see me in September so my hair could grow out a little. I don’t think she meant September 2008.

But it’s definitely time. I can always tell when I’ve just had it with my hair because I stop trying to do anything with it. I used to wear endless buns during this stage, but lately I’ve been sporting a braided ponytail nonstop. Easy, keeps all the hair from annoying me, and makes it very easy to detangle all this hair every morning.

Until I realized last week that I have been sporting the exact same ‘do as Ice-T on Law and Order: SVU.

This is not good. While I love SVU‘s Det. Odafin Tutuola (best named TV detective since Rico Tubbs on Miami Vice), I don’t need to emulate his personal style. So I’m ready for some hair to come off today.

Ice-T as Det. Fin Tutuola.

Me, with homemade Shakey Cam this morning.  Agh!
