One of H’s birthday presents was this adorable mini sewing machine from John Lewis in the UK. Her grandparents brought it over for her when they came for her party, she as excited. I’d been thinking of getting her a machine when she turned 5, and I’d seen that one last year on a trip over. Now, she has it. And we’ve been learning to use it.

It’s very, very, very lightweight. It’s not a machine for sewing anything heavy duty, but it’s perfect for teaching her the basics of stitches and safety. Which is what we’ve been doing. She rooted through my scraps and picked out fabrics for a little doll pillow and blanket. And then we spent an afternoon sewing them together.

She was so, so proud of herself. Now we’ll have to work on our next project together.
