Here are some good things that have happened lately, to turn my birthday frown upside down.

One of the GeekMoms, Natania, got a bunch of us hooked on Ipsy. My first bag came last month, and I just got the email that my February bag is on its way. Happy dance! I loved the goodies in the first bag (that Briogeo deep conditioner was amahzing).

soloioIn May 2006, I did a 3-week study abroad in Florence, Italy as an elective for my Masters. It was a course in art librarianship, and about a dozen of us from universities all over the US ran around Tuscany for a few weeks getting backstage tours of all the museums and libraries, eating like crazy, and collecting stories about the insane little force of nature who was our Florentine professor (let’s just say she liked wine more than most Italians). It was my second trip to Italy and the kind of experience that made me want to just stay there forever.

Yesterday while I was sitting in major traffic on my drive home from work, I was thinking about where I wished I was instead. Italy, Greece, the Caribbean. So it got me thinking about summer socializing: the beach, picnics, barbeques, etc. I suddenly got the idea for my next project, which I’ve named my Bianco/Rosso Bag (White/Red in Italian). I decided it would be great to make a bag that could hold 2 bottles of wine, one red and one white, to transport to spring and summer events. I made this bag up completely as I went along, although I’m sure I’m not the first person to think of a similar idea. But I’m actually really proud of it, it is the first sewn project I’ve made that came entirely from my own imagination. I was so excited when I finished it this morning that I woke my husband up out of a dead sleep so I could model my creation.
