We bought Hannah a cedar playhouse from Costco for her birthday back in the spring, but Adam didn’t get a chance to assemble it until a few weeks ago. At first it was too cold to build it, then he broke his toe and couldn’t build it. So, finally, she has her playhouse now in the backyard!

Yesterday was our first of two full days in the Mystic area. I’ve been to Mystic as a kid, once or twice with Adam over the years, and once we spent an afternoon at the Seaport (with Hannah) on our way to Maine with my in-laws. But every time I come I feel like it’s new, and my sense of geography is weird until we get somewhere, and I think, “Ah, I remember this.”

This week is Hannah’s spring break, and so far it’s been pretty up and down. On Monday we booked a trip for Hannah, Hamilton, and me to head to Mystic for the second half of the week. Spring break fun with me and the small ones! But then I woke up Tuesday with another sore throat, went to my doctor’s walk-in clinic, and confirmed that I had strep. Again. Second time in two weeks.

Hamilton turned one back on January 26th, which incidentally is the same day I destroyed my laptop (more on that later). So, I’ve had his birthday pictures on my phone, but no laptop to transfer them to and blog about.

I do. I want to post about good things, about stuff we’re making here, things we’re doing, how cute my dog is. How cute my kid is, even. But to talk about this stuff and pretend that the country isn’t in a dark place right now is disingenuous, it’s pretending that everything is fine, everything is normal.
