Today is going to be a long one. Tonight is the 1st open house for parents at school, and it’s the one I’m attending. So I’ll be at work until probably 8pm tonight, I’m not going home before Back to School Night starts. I have so many beginning-of-the-year things to do at this new job that I’m just going to plow through today.

I love color theory, I always considered this my strength as an art student. I could mix paint colors well and figure out how to reproduce a color I saw. I remember in college reading the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman at the same time I was taking some interior design classes. Both reinforced the idea that yellow is the worst color for a bedroom, it is incredibly unsettling in a sleep environment. After that, I was hooked on color theory and how color affects mood and reflects your personality.

I am fascinated by color theory, an area which I have always considered my one strength as an artist and a crafty person. Blue is my favorite color, and this book by Michel Pastoureau is not only amazing to look at but great fun to read. If you’re like me and have any interest in the social and physical histories of everyday things, you might like this one.
