Today’s the day! HFR is 5 years old today. I’m going to get the typical parent cliche out of the way here first by announcing I can’t believe she’s five, it feels like just yesterday when she was born, where does the time go, etc. These are all true statements that run through my head on a regular basis, and at every birthday she’s ever had.

Today is my actual birthday, but last Sunday we went to see Elephant & Piggie: We Are in a Play at the New Victory Theater. That was my birthday celebration. My mom pointed out that they were doing a sensory friendly performance, I saw it was the weekend before my birthday, and that’s what I wanted. No presents.

Hamilton turned one back on January 26th, which incidentally is the same day I destroyed my laptop (more on that later). So, I’ve had his birthday pictures on my phone, but no laptop to transfer them to and blog about.

I’m kind of…stunned. I can’t believe we have a 4-year-old now, but at the same time it feels like an ice age since she was a baby. Also, this kid killed it for birthday season this year.

If January was all about decluttering, February was all about illness and injury. Meh. But also, birthdays and parties!!

This was the month I found out I probably need knee surgery. We had a quick round of a stomach bug with Hannah. Adam needs to have more dental surgery soon. And I’ve been snowed under by a nasty cold/sinus infection for the past few days. But, I’m getting there! On the mend.

I turned 37 on the 10th, and I had a great birthday this year. I actually love my birthdays, but this one was especially good. My birthdays stressed me out until I turned 30, and then I realized they weren’t actually scary. Every year older felt like a year of life earned and-well lived. And then I started embracing them with shenanigans and hijinks every year.

I’ve been picking up a few things ahead of my birthday next week that just make me smile. This octopus gives me the happies, I picked him up at Target last week. He’s sitting in my studio looking down at me with his piratey, cephalopod ways.

So, it turns out I need knee surgery. I injured my knee a few years ago attempting to be an athlete, and I never got it looked at. When it started occasionally flaring up with pain, my GP told me I probably had mild arthritis. So, I’ve just gone on as usual with an extra sore knee when it rains.

Adam’s birthday was on Sunday, and we had a great weekend. We snuck out on Saturday for a date night to seeĀ Everest. Then we spent Sunday having fun with Hannah.

The photo of him above because is my new favorite photo of him and Hannah. Hannah insisted on the party hat. His parents gave him an Apple Watch, but Hannah didn’t want to fork over the wrapped treat. And their faces…that’s my entire heart right there with those two.
