I’ve been busy since getting the news that my contract would not be renewed next year.

Obviously the left photo is before, even though I had long since retired wearing my hair down in favor of my classic, time-for-a-haircut, Det. Odafin Tutuola braid. I decided to chop my hair off, and it is shorter than it’s been in almost 20 years.

It’s harder than I originally thought. At least, the first week is harder. So this blog might be a bit sporadic until I get this new routine down. I love the job, the kids are awesome. But at the moment my hours are gobbled up with lesson plans, cleaning out my office, finding things around the library, getting settled, and coming home to recover. Posting every day has not been happening. Plus, I haven’t quite decided what direction this blog will take now that my job has changed. I’m not doing neat programs once or twice a week with photogenic crafts to post. Will I post what I’m doing with the kids from week to week? Quite possibly. Or what I’ve done in the library, or some cool new thing I’ve found.

So now that the word is out, I can write about my new job. In about 3 weeks I’ll be starting as the librarian at an elementary school closer to home. This means I won’t necessarily have as many crafty activities to write about, but I’m sure I will still have plenty of librarian-like things to post. It’s a very cool, exciting change, and I’m really looking forward to it. I just have to figure out how to deal with leaving the kids at my current public library position. I’m sure they will recover in about an hour, but I’ll be pretty upset for a while. I’m having one more Girl’s Club Pajama Party before I go, so I’m working on some fun stuff for that. Big changes!

Because I don’t actually want to read any books for children. After finishing the fairly angsty The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl, I wanted something lighter. Something without an irritating, aggressive female character who is troubled and not even remotely enjoyable to be around for 300 pages. I mean, there are troubled teens and then there are sociopaths. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the book. Fanboy was fantastic. I just needed something different.
