I wasn’t great about photos this month, but I was also extremely sick for the first couple of weeks of the new year. So this is what I’ve got, and despite the small number of photos here, it’s ended up as a pretty great month.

I’m feeling better after battling the flu and then a superinfection on top of it. I was down from December 28th until this past Friday, the 5th, when I went back to work but still felt pretty grim. I didn’t really start functioning until yesterday, and I’d say I’m still about 80%. Just need to catch up on sleep and recharge my batteries.

I have a word for 2016, and it’s “more.”

Today is the first day after winter break, with Adam back at work and H back at school. It’s the first day I’ve chosen not to be a teacher and to instead be a creative who works from home. I didn’t get up and go to a building for a job this morning. I’m jobbing right now, this is the beginning. I’m getting my ducks in a row and my thoughts in a…row.

2013 did not go as planned. At the beginning of the year I fully expected to still be a teacher at the end of it. That’s not how the year worked out, and I’ve spent the last six months trying to figure out this new identity. Stay at home mom? Work at home mom? Temporarily at home mom?

The truth is that I have no idea what 2014 will look like, at least not professionally. I’m pretty sure my home life will still be as warm and fulfilling, and my friends and family will still be amazing. I hope it will be full of creativity and new knowledge. I hope I try lots of things and don’t completely fail at them all.

Today was my first day back after 2 glorious weeks off, and I’m exhausted! It was great to be back, see the kids, and set all my plans in motion for the 2nd half of the year. But I fell asleep on the couch for almost 3 hours when I got home, I was so tired. So there went all my productive plans for the rest of the day.
