I’ve always liked Ben Affleck, but I really liked the speech he gave for Argo’s Best Picture win at the Oscars on Sunday. And yes, I know this is tilted. But it’s the best version of the entire speech that I could find.

I get everything about this. Doing things for your kids because they are the mirror that you see yourself in. And why showing them your best self is such a big deal. I even get his awkward statement about marriage being work. It is work, the best kind of work, even when it feels effortless and amazing. You work to show up and be present and support each other every single day. I get that you won’t both be happy in your careers at the same time every day, or even every year, but you always celebrate the other’s highs and pull them through the lows.

I get it, and I really love his story.

This is too ridiculous for words, but it looks like so much fun. Must read the book first.

This is going to be unreal.

I have no idea what this movie is about, but it has 3 of my favorite people in it. Also, Sarah from Chuck (who Adam has a crush on). And plus, the trailer has “Rock You Like a Hurricane” playing.

I’m still trying to decide what to make of this trailer…I see many changes from the book. And I think by now I’ve clearly established how completely in love with that story I am. As a rule I try not to obsess about changes in a film adaptation of a book as long as the film stays true to the spirit of the original and it adds to the experience. I look at them as separate things. So I’m holding my breath to see what Martin Scorcese has done with it, since every movie he’s ever made is brilliant. But if he messes up the spirit of this particular book, I’m having every Hugo Cabret-lover I’ve ever taught write him angry letters.
