Can we just take a moment to oooh and aaah over the outfits my mom churned out for Hannah this summer? She was kind of on a roll.
It’s the first week of school in my neck of the woods, my first week back in a school after a year home writing and mommying. I still have so much summer to post, and all my brain can think about right now are door decorations and library cards. But, I can’t let the whole rest of my life get derailed by a new job. So, this is what I wore last month. Thank god summer is coming to a close, I really cannot dress myself in the heat.
Oh, July. You were a month of cutoff jean shorts and myriad toddler fingerprints on the mirror. Get it together, July!
Actually, July was pretty together. I got a teaching job. I started writing for What The Flicka?, and I finished the redo of this site (yay!). I went to Lancaster with my favorite ladies. Hannah took swim lessons and started the summer program at her school. I made more jam, which I will write about later. I finally learned to walk in flip flops!
I wish I had some great insights to offer for last month beyond noting that Hannah’s fingerprints are a constant presence on our mirror.
June went fast. Hannah had three weeks off from school before starting the summer program, and now suddenly she goes back on Monday. July 4th has come and gone (and we had a great one, more on that later). The weather went from getting away with long sleeves to straight-up tank top and flip flops weather.
Here are a few things about April that I thought about while putting this month’s collage together:
- I forget about this project a lot, and April was definitely a regression into lots of yoga pants (those would probably be the days missing photos).
- I have really, really been digging striped shirts since I was pregnant with Hannah, after a lifetime of avoiding them.
- I need a haircut (scheduled for tomorrow!). Too many ponytails.
- It’s already May 7th, and I’m just getting to this post. Lots of THINGS happening here.
- I miss wearing dresses, but not that white eyelet dress (purchased for a specific purpose, not to be fabulous).
I’m a week late, but here’s the group of outfits I wore in March. In March I learned that I desperately need new jeans, so that is currently being handled.
I also missed about a week’s worth of photos last month. It was a busy time; Hannah’s second birthday (which was really wonderful), finishing up the four-month-long web design course I took, and working on some very cool new professional adventures for myself. Those adventures include a complete overhaul of this site, which is currently in the works. And I’m really thrilled about it; this blog’s last facelift was four years ago. And this won’t just be a facelift; this site will look 100% different. I’m really hoping to have the new site up by the end of April. Fingers crossed!
I didn’t capture every day, there was slacking off around my birthday when I got sick. But, this is what I wore. I’m hoping that by the end of March some warmer weather clothes will come out to play.
So here’s the first (half) month of my project to motivate me out of yoga pants. A few things: a) I’ve decided it would be easier to use my phone for the photos this time around, but as I do not have the steadiest of hands I’ve got more blurry photos than I anticipated. I’m working on that. b) There are a couple of these outfits that I absolutely hate, but I did not know that until I saw them in photos. So, kudos for learning stuff! c) Cardigans are still my friend. d) I really only wear, like, 3 pairs of shoes during the winter.
So in September of 2010 I started taking photos of my work outfits after leaving one district and starting in another (this was the job I just left last June). I kind of just wanted to see if I could go a month without repeating outfits, but I kept it up. Then in 2011, I took a photo of myself almost every single day; the results are the above photo. This turned out to be the year I became pregnant with Hannah, so the outfit photos became a diary of my growing baby bump. I stopped the photos after she was born in March of 2012 because, you know, newborn.
But last week I’m pretty sure I wore yoga pants 5 out of the 7 days. And turtlenecks, and sneakers.
This must stop.
