We celebrated Dr. Seuss Day, formally known as Read Across America, here by reading The Cat in the Hat and making cat hats. This was my go-to library lesson for years with pre-k and kindergarten, and now my own small human can benefit from all of my supplies and old lesson plans. I still have a stash of white paper bags in the perfect size for hats that I bought myself. I took them with me when I stopped teaching, so I still had them on hand to make hats.

Today is my actual birthday, but last Sunday we went to see Elephant & Piggie: We Are in a Play at the New Victory Theater. That was my birthday celebration. My mom pointed out that they were doing a sensory friendly performance, I saw it was the weekend before my birthday, and that’s what I wanted. No presents.

January 23rd brought the 2017 ALA Youth Media Awards around again, and that meant we added the latest set of Caldecott books to H’s collection. I just realized that I don’t actually post about this every year when it happens, even though the collection grows and grows.
Earlier this summer Cloud9 Fabrics asked if I would make a Corduroy version of the Easy Peasy Quilt I did for their Knuffle Bunny fabric collection. The Corduroy line of prints just launched this month, and the quilt is now up on their site! I don’t think this stops being exciting, it’s just really cool to see something you’ve made out in the world like that.
