I spent the end of January and half of February reading James Dean and Eric Litwin’s Pete the Cat books, singing Pete the Cat songs, and making Pete the Cat pictures with the kindergarteners. I love the Pete the Cat!!!

We read Pete the Cat: I Love My New White Shoes, Pete the Cat: Rocking in my School Shoes, Pete the Cat The Wheels on the Bus, Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses, and Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons.

We watched this video, and this one, and also this one and this one several times at the students’ request–two of my teacher and librarian friends recommended some of these (Thanks, Donna and Tiff!). I’d planned to do a flannelboard, but we had too many missed days because of holidays and snow.

At the end of this unit, we assembled our own Pete the Cats using this template from A Spoonful of Learning. They were so cute, and I didn’t take any pictures!

I have my kindergarten kids on Mondays, which is a tough day during the winter. Days off, delays because of snow, even assemblies mean that we miss a lot of time. And I had so many other themes and lessons to squeeze in. Next year, I will plan more Pete the Cat time. Maybe in the spring.
