So I actually made this playlist over the summer, but now that fall is emerging (I wore a turtleneck today!!) I’m starting to work on a new one. But I’m still listening to this one constantly, so I wanted to post it.
This is a playlist full of songs that I like to sing along to in the car. I started it when I realized the Huge Responsibility of being this child’s first exposure to sound. I didn’t want the only lullaby in the Reeve family to be the theme song to Law & Order. Ballads, college anthems, random dance tracks I have no business attempting to sing to…you get the idea, all melodic stuff that I imagined a baby would like to hear. It’s not like I don’t also sing along to Aerosmith and such, but those weren’t quite for this playlist. I also wanted songs that I like to sing so the baby would get used to my voice.
I had to force myself to be honest above all attempts at being cool…this list is for me and The Sprout, and if you can’t be honest with the alien lifeform growing inside of you who can you be honest with? Obviously several of these selections are mortifying; I wish I could lie and say that I sing along to “Billie Jean” instead of that Free Willy song (damn that whale and that gospel choir and their ability to give me goosebumps well into my 30s). Plus this playlist is more than 4 hours long. Anyway…you get the idea.
