This was one of my least favorite dinners in recent memory. And I was really excited to try something new. I made this complicated Food and Wine recipe more than a month ago, after reading about it back in May and wanting to try it ever since. I finally got motivated to make it, and after hours of cooking it looked great and tasted…like nothing. With a slight hint of turmeric.

It was just incredibly bland, I couldn’t figure out where I went wrong. I still can’t, and I followed the recipe exactly. When I asked friends about this they asked me if I’d added enough of ingredient this or that, and this or that weren’t even in the recipe. So I don’t know how much of this failure is a misstep on my part, or if this just really isn’t a very good recipe. But it looked great.

Ian’s was so much better.
