constance spryI didn’t say much yesterday about the actual food I put out for Thanksgiving dinner!

The roast turkey recipe was from the America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook. Pretty straightforward. Adam made the mashed potatoes, my mom made all the veggies and stuffing.

I also made roast potatoes, which are something I always put out when we have big turkey dinners. A few years ago Adam’s parents gave me this classic old copy of The Constance Spry Cookery, a standard in British cookbook collections. She was a dynamo of British cooking during the first half of the 20th century, and I make her roasted potatoes and sausage stuffing (and stuffing balls) for Adam at the holidays. I didn’t make the stuffing for Thanksgiving this year, but the potatoes were awesome. Parboil them for 7 minutes, then roast them in a cookie sheet full of olive oil while the turkey is cooking. Baste them with oil as you go (or bacon fat, or anything like that). Crispy and excellent.

Anyway, today is Black Friday. I met up with my mom and my aunt to try and get on some of the savings. I picked up a few gifts, which I’ll report on as they’re given out to people. I’m still hunting for savings. Thanksgiving is done, and I have a week to get ready for our holiday party. Lots of planning to do this weekend!
