fielddayField Day. Considering it’s the kids who did all the running around I can’t believe how tired I am. Exhausted. I came home and slept for 3 hours. Their energy was so over-the-top today that it was exhausting just keeping them off the rafters, so to speak.

But man, it was fun. It was fun because the kids loved every minute of it. It was cold and drizzly all day, but the kids didn’t care. So I didn’t care, either. They made their rotations around the field playing every game, they went to the gym for the bouncy castle, and they had the best time. Every grade, every class. One 4th grade girl nearly broke her nose, but after some mending and maternal care she was right back to see her classmates and tell her battle story. Some 5th graders got themselves into trouble with a t-shirt signing that got out of control. There were tears, arguments, moments of poor sportsmanship.

But there was also a lot of laughter, helping hands, concern for classmates from those I would least expect it. Lots of building each other up, letting off steam, hugs. Today brought out the best and worst in the kids, but at the end of the day it was mostly the best. And I had a great time watching it and being part of it.
