Last night I had my Mo Willems program at the library. I read Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, The Pigeon Wants a Puppy, There Is a Bird on Your Head, Today I will Fly!, Leonardo the Terrible Monster, and Edwina the Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct. I usually don’t get through that many books before the kids start rioting and asking for the craft, but they couldn’t get enough. I do lots of voices and antics when I read stories, and they work really well with Mo Willems.

Then we drew The Pigeon. I printed out the How To sheet from Hyperion’s website and gave copies to all the kids. They were so creative with this, I got great photos of their drawings.

Aylin, Age 8. She already knew how to draw the pigeon, she drew a bunch of great pigeons last night.

Kevin, Age 8. Kevin does his own thing, which I like. I’m hoping that yellow thing is a cross, not a gun. I didn’t even think of that until one of my colleagues asked. I have, unfortunately, had to confiscate lots of drawings with guns from the under 10 set.

Blanca, Age 8. Blanca went for a whole scene.
